I finally received the first contact from my future host family this morning, and now understand why some people are so happy when they get mail, why they are almost obsessed with letter writing. The pristine envelope, despite the long journey, with its almost exotic stamps lay with a few commercial mailings in our letterbox and almost cried out to be opened without delay. Even so, I took my time. I laid the letter on our kitchen table and made myself something to eat, glancing towards the missive now and then, but trying to exercise a little bit of patience which, I must admit, was difficult. All I wanted to do was rip the envelope open and see what was inside.
The wait was worth it. Inside the clean white envelope I found a typed, two-page letter on cream-colored paper with a wealth of information about the family I am going to be staying with for most of the time I am in Europe. Now all I need to do is finalize my plans for the journey out; where I am going to stay when I get to London and Paris and exactly what I want to see and do while I am there. This is going to be the trip of a life time.
Love & Kisses, Viki.
