We all show off in our own little way, whether it is to let others see something we’ve just bought; a new fashion item; a ring – especially for those planning on a more permanent union with their partner – or something which is special to us which we want everyone else to appreciate, to comment on. Then there is the art of showing off which is more private or, perhaps, not quite as private as we might have intended; those quickly snapped photographs with our mobile which we send to other people and which, eventually, appear on some My Girlfriend website.
Have you ever thought about showing off in another way? By this I mean the really personal type, where you go to a professional photographer and have a small portfolio produced? Not necessarily erotic photography, but at least something more personal, something which has deeper, private memories only to be shared with special people.
We all know those photographs taken in the mirror – usually in the bathroom with a litter of toiletries all around and streaks all over your reflected form – or in the bedroom – which you forgot to clean up before taking the photograph and now everyone can see what a messy you are – and they can be just as personal, just as intimate as any other. But it is a completely different matter when you strip in front of a stranger, and most professional photographers will be strangers to us, and allow him or her to move you around, to find the right pose, adjust the light, snap your image as he or she sees fit.
Some of these people can be really artistic and create far more of an image of their subject than just the actual image on paper. With the right photographer it is possible to create a whole story, contained within a single shot, something which awakens the imagination and, for the more intimate versions, stirs the fantasy of each and every viewer. Even the more intimate shots don’t need to be explicit and, as you know from previous posts, I often find those which show little to be considerably more erotic than those which reveal all, or leave precious little to the imagination.
I wonder whether women or men are more attuned to having their photograph taken, without clothes, as a form of memory, a memento of previous times. Certainly as far as publication goes, it is the women. There are more magazines and periodicals on the market displaying the beauty of the nude woman than of men; is this a personal thing, controlled by the market or simply aesthetic?
A woman’s form, her shape, curves, movement – which some photographers can capture – has such a strong appeal, even amongst other women, and there are so many different images, so many different shapes and sizes.
A sultry look, a sweep of hair, shadows, pursing lips. A combination of so many things coming together in one single image.
I’m not suggesting that every woman – or man – should show themselves off through a portfolio of professional photographs, but I do wonder how many people trust themselves enough to go so far; to allow a stranger to capture their image for eternity; to show themselves off in a more private way. We’re not all models, cut to a specific form, but there is so much beauty worth seeing, worth capturing.
Would you do it? Would you go to a professional photographer for such a portfolio, either discrete or more intimate or, perhaps, explicit? And who would you have the photographs made for? Yourself or someone else?
Love & Kisses, Viki.
