Hardly am I back on my feet again, taking in the changes around town – as I wrote a little while ago – when I get flooded with yet more changes. This time they are in the Internet, and don’t seem to be making too many people all that happy!
As many people will already know, Facebook is making sweeping changes in the layout you, the user, have to look at when logging in. Facebook doesn’t allow any personal themes, so you really have no choice. Even with many of the new changes not yet officially announced – according to Internet news sites – many people appear to be less than happy with what they see. Perhaps it really will only be a question of time before people get used to the new layout, or perhaps there will be another flood of people going elsewhere.
In the case of StumbleUpon, I suspect they will see a fairly large exodus. When I have understood their planned changes correctly, all the profiles on StumbleUpon will revert a default theme, white background with black typeface and all the PhotoBlogs will go. Rather than being a site attuned to the latest and best around the web through links and shares made by – according to their figures – over sixteen million Stumblers, it will become something else, but I’m not yet sure what.
Facebook makes little real difference to me, as regular readers know, but StumbleUpon has provided me with many good friends and many, many good links, photographs, hours of conversation and pleasure. If my PhotoBlog goes, then I go to. Simple as that. I cannot see StumbleUpon being of any use to me in any other form than it is now.
Where StumbleUpon loses out, Tumblr will win. Many of my friends have now started Tumblr PhotoBlogs to continue their photographic interests. I just hope that Tumblr is able to cope with a sudden influx of new accounts …
Love & Kisses, Viki.
