So, for anyone who isn’t up to date with the local news here in northern Germany: there is a photographic competition starting here as of today. It was announced in the newspaper this morning – front page paragraph and inside piece – and, as promised, one of my photographs was used to illustrate it.
Fine, that was the good news. As with all such things, since I am now involved with the organizing of this competition – which I am not really, but my work has been used – I can’t take part in it. None of my shots of the local area – it is restricted to pictures from the county – can be entered for judging and I’ll have to get myself a digital picture frame or a few Euro in prize cash from somewhere else.
The second thing which is not quite so good: this is the photograph which was used for the newspaper article which, to my way of thinking, is a quite reasonable effort with one or two minor good points. But the newspaper decided to adapt it by superimposing a hand holding a pocket digital camera with the two faces framed inside the screen on top of the whole and call my photograph a ‘background’. It is still possible to see the photograph for what it is, especially with the rainbow, but it isn’t the same.
Not that I have anything to complain about; I offered the organizer the photograph along with a few others for the competition and didn’t make any stipulations about how it could be used – I’m still learning! – and they did credit it to me properly. If all goes according to plan there should be a poster too, with a few other photographs included, but for that we will have to wait and see. The whole competition has been pushed right back; it was meant to finish at the end of July but because of other work one of the organizers – working for the local council – didn’t respond until recently and everything had to be changed.
And I’m back out and about with my camera a little bit, so I’ll be publishing a few new images here and on my Google Plus account soon!
Love & Kisses, Viki.
