It has been a good year. No matter how I look at it, 2012 was a most enjoyable time all in all, with many new things experienced, older things enhanced and a few new paths trodden and explored. We have had the end of the world come and go, we have had security and personal rights changed back and forth, we have had good news and sad news. It has been a year which I will look back on with pleasure, a little bit of sorrow too, but mainly with a feeling of happiness and satisfaction.
And that said there have not been so many changes. There were the manifold problems with my server and the constant downtime thanks to an inefficient and unprofessional host, now consigned to the ‘never go there again’ file. This brought about two changes for my blog, one to a new server which should have provided a better connectivity as well as the advantages of the newer versions of php and the second to the new host.
I have changed some of the services that I use elsewhere, as well as my writing style and the sites which I use either to promote this blog or to further my writing and my earning capabilities. In 2013 there will be further, similar, changes as my experience in writing for the open market, selling my words, grows. I may not have earned a great deal, but the potential is there.
It has been a year of growing friendships, both online and in real life. More and more people have found this blog, glanced through what I have written and even passed the information on to other people. Whilst I could, perhaps, be a little bit sad at how few have left comments here during 2012 I am also very well aware that other sites with an equal number of visitors receive considerably less. My friendships have expanded beyond just this site, some to a more private nature with almost regular conversations elsewhere, some to a more general regularity. This expansion has also made the whole thing, the amount of work involved and the time spent in front of the computer, all the more worthwhile. The Internet is there to connect people, social media is there for social reasons and, if it doesn’t work that way, then something is very wrong indeed. For me it has worked.
Alongside my writing my photography has improved a great deal too, even if I haven’t been posting that many new works of late. The new year will bring new ideas with it and new opportunities to further my interest in this fascinating medium, as well as the chance to improve my fledgling skills.
Still, I do not have any resolutions for the new year. I’m going to continue in much the same way as I’ve been working during 2012 simply because I’ve discovered that what I’ve been doing has been successful and fulfilling. Why change something which works so well?
Thank you all for being with me, supporting and advising me, throughout 2012 and I hope that you will remain as my guests, my travel companions, through 2013.
Love & Kisses, Viki.
