Automatic Software Categories

Posted by Viktoria Michaelis on June 23, 2013 in Internet |

Isn’t life wonderful now that we have software which handles everything? So much easier not having to think any more, just type something into a machine and it will tell you what you want, what you need, what is on offer at a good price. It might not be exactly the thing that you are looking for but, as Google says, if you’re feeling lucky…

There was a time when anything added as a Discovery to StumbleUpon needed the user to enter a suitable category. Those days, it would seem, have gone and the whole process is automated. Is the entry suitable for a work environment? Good, that’s all they need to know and you, the user, can wander off and continue with your surfing and not a worry in the world. Except.

Except that I have noticed quite a few of my Discoveries uploaded to StumbleUpon are appearing in the strangest of categories, and all without my help. Take, if you will, my last post as an example. Now I had thought this would come up as humor. At the very worst under computers, business or something similar. But no: it appears that a humorous post covering job opportunities for the NSA is Feminism. Well, I guess you could put that down as gender equality…

Love & Kisses, Viki
