What is the most important issue being discussed across news sources in the Internet these days? Well, clearly it must be the moves to retaliate against Syria for the use of chemical weapons: I doubt that any of us have been able to avoid calls for action blazoned across the headlines or the ensuing discussions. The result has been a call for governments to carefully consider what action they could take, and to wait until such time as it is clear exactly who was responsible for the use of chemical weapons, for the deaths of so many innocent people; there have also been reports that Assad’s government forces were not responsible, that the rebels pulled off the attack in the hope of gaining outside intervention against their opponents. Smacks a bit, I guess, of the conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11 – did the US government, the CIA or some other governmental agency arrange the attacks against the Word Trade buildings to force US attacks against other nations?
Regardless, the Twitter headlines also show how important such events are to some, and perhaps a little insight into what is more important, a vote on whether military action by the British should take place or whether Miley Cyrus should be condemned for her antics onstage at the Video Music Awards.
Good to see that it is The Thunderer, that bastion of British seriousness, which comes out tops in the debate list!
