More Security

Posted by Viktoria Michaelis on September 11, 2013 in Internet |

The world is a dangerous place, and the Internet – whilst being virtual – is not excluded. Taking a look at my BruteForce statistics today I happened to notice a sudden and sharp increase in the number of attempts to gain access to my blog:

Viktoria Michaelis: BruteForce Statistics

something which no one would find too pleasing, especially when the statistics showed about five hundred attempts fewer just a few hours ago!

So, we are busy implementing even more security changes to make sure that your favorite blog – well, mine at least – doesn’t fall foul to those people out there determined to ruin our day, and destroy all of my work. A better password – in excess of twenty-five characters – coupled with a renaming of all the WordPress database files and, something which many people seem to leave out or do not know how to change: the removal of admin as a log in name (long overdue).

Now, this isn’t necessarily going to change the number of attempts to break in, but it will certainly make it considerably harder for anyone to gain access, and make most people give up early on.

It’s a shame that these things need to be done, but that is what our virtual world has come to and we are all a little bit better off for some real and effective protection.

Love & Kisses, Viki.
