Don’t Trust Stats!

Posted by Viktoria Michaelis on December 12, 2013 in Internet |

For some reason, which is very annoying, Alexa declines my desire to show stats for US visitors. This means that my rating on Sverve (for example) is considerably lower than it should be. Now, I am not really a stats person, if the website works and I have enough feedback to my occasional writings, I am happy. But social media, social networks are meant to be the links to new readers, and stats are an important part of all this.

This is what Alexa tells me: the bulk of my visitors come from Germany. It is not, however, accurate. The bulk of my visitors come from the United States, with Germany a long way behind.

Google Analytics tells me a different story

which is backed up by Quantcast. So what is Alexa up to? Can they even be trusted any more? The problem is that Alexa is used by many listings sites to determine ratings, and if they cannot get their prime service right, well, what’s the point?

Love & Kisses, Viki.
