One of the most ridiculous things I have heard in the past few days here, is that people should show their disagreement with the politics in Russia by boycotting the Olympic Games. Clearly this is easy enough if you are a state leader or a politician: you simply do not attend any of the ceremonies. But for ordinary people?
I have heard a number of Germans claiming that they will boycott the games by simply not watching them on television. Admittedly this is a personal thing, but it has no effect whatsoever.
All Germans pay a television license fee to the state broadcasters (ARD, ZDF and so on), and these are the channels which broadcast the games. That means, every single German who pays the fee is supporting the games with their money. Hardly a boycott which can be effective.
Love & Kisses, Viki.
