On German T.V. a couple of years ago, there was a program which included a professor for Onomatology (I think) and he gave the background of names that viewers had sent in. When asked for the funniest names that he had come across in his research, he first of all said that he only dealt with names that were real, i.e. in the telephone book. He came across a family named ‘Schluepfer’ – one of the German words for panties, or knickers. The thing was, they had a daughter and named her Rosa – ‘Pink Panties’ she probably had a rough time at school!
