Summer Sun And Bellybuttons

Posted by Viktoria Michaelis on May 25, 2015 in Absolute Hot! |

If the sun would just come on out for more than an hour at a time, and not be broken up in its visits by rain, we could almost claim that the summer is here. And with the summer we’d see the end of those enticing half-warm spring fashion statements, and the real ‘summertime’ attempts at glamor and ease.

And perhaps we’ll be lucky this year and have fashions which catch the eye from the front as much as from the back although, to be honest, I’m not sure I have too much time for fashions where the pocket lining is showing! All the rest, well. it’s a matter of taste.

What I would really like to see is an end to this yoga pants trend. It’s not that they are unappealing, just that some young women are far too young to be wearing such clinging clothing. I wondered, when I was in Hamburg recently, what a family thought of their twelve (or so) year old daughter showing off all that was still growing in the nether regions.

Older women, fine, at least they know what they are doing, what they are letting themselves in for. The looks are not unknown, and they have a far better chance of defending themselves, either through bravado, or through experience.

I wonder, though, how many people will consider bellybutton-revealing clothing as being a form of body-shaming. If it is in fashion, too many people will feel almost forced to fight down their true figure to achieve some ideal – based probably on those models who still stagger down the catwalk and have not been banned by all fashion magazines or designers. With so much talent around, and there will be plenty, someone with a less than ideal figure – according to society standards – will feel the need to join in and, it can hardly be expected that anything else will happen, bear the brunt of a fixated public.

And then there is the tan-line problem. Fine, a bikini-line is understandable, but a line which begins well below the under-boob area?

And the price women have to pay for their needs! The less fabric, the higher the cost. Definitely something wrong there, but: market forces. If it’s in fashion, it’s more expensive, no matter how little there is of it. Take a look at designer meals, for example: the same since as an entrée with the price of a five-course meal.

And how long before we go to extremes? I recently read that two melons were sold in Japan for eleven thousand dollars (or Euro? Much the same). Strange the thoughts which come to mind when you look at certain photographs.

Love & Kisses, Viki.
